What is Celiac Disease?

Celiac Disease is one of the most common genetic conditions in the world. Celiac is a muti-symptom, multi-system disorder, activated by eating gluten-proteins found in wheat, rye and barley. Symptoms vary and are not always gastrointestinal.

Due to the many complications associated with Celiac Disease, patients don't always know what symptoms are celiac related. Coupled with the fact that celiac awareness is very low in this country, even among the medical community, it causes delayed diagnoses in patients, which increases an individual's risk of worsening symptoms and disorders, and the appearance of new ones.

Celiac Health Management LLC is available to help reduce the confusion, anxiety and assist in answering questions that are associated with Celiac Disease.

Classic Symptoms:

Abdominal cramping, intestinal gas and bloating

Chronic diarrhea or constipation (or both)

Steatorrhea - fatty stools

Anemia

Weight loss with large appetite or weight gain

Other Symptoms:

Dental enamel defects

Bone or joint pain

Fatigue, weakness and lack of energy

Infertility

Depression

Aphthous ulcers

Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) is the skin manifestation of celiac disease characterized by blistering, intensely itchy skin. The rash has a symmetrical distribution and is most frequently found on the face, elbows, knees and buttocks. DH patients can have gastrointestinal damage without perceptible symptoms.

These symptoms are the most common. There are many symptoms of celiac disease. If you have other symptoms that your doctor or physician cannot control, ask them to test you for celiac.
